Compass designed and built a custom system to pick and torque four different screw types into an antenna assembly for a defense contractor.
An operator loads an assembly into place using a cart. The screws are bowl fed and picked by a Fanuc M20 robot. Machine vision is used to determine if the correct assembly is present.
The system then torques thousands of screws. The assembly is re-positioned as needed for the robot to drive the remaining screws. Compass integrated a Desoutter driver. The one Desoutter driver allowed us to torque screws from a .05 newton meter range up to several inch pounds. The system is fully integrated into the customer's SCADA system for statistical process control.
